How to pick a good domain for your business

If your looking for a fast and easy way to set up a business or to jumpstart yours, the
internet offers you a wide variety of options to get you noticed.  One of the first things
you need to do is to pick out a domain name.  A domain name is what people use to
reach you on the internet.  Hear are some tips to buying a good one.

1) Make it as short as possible.  Too many people get caught up in having large
number of keywords in their name.  Make it easy for people to type.  Statistically
about 60% of people reach a site, just by typing the name in their browser.

2) The domain name should make sense.  If the name of your business is
"Best Hair Care" for instance, BestHairCare.com would work well. If the name is not
available try adding a common term at the end such as: inc, llc, co.

3) Avoid words that are hard to spell.  Example "Boutique"  It sounds very
fashionable but many people will spell it wrong. Shop or store are more common.

4) Easy to remember names work well.  Make it catchy and easy to recall.

5) Avoid Slang letters (for the most part). Accept for heavily branded words, most
people will probably not search to "toyz", most likely they will type out "toys". They look cool
and trendy but may make getting search rankings difficult.

6) Avoid "-" hyphens, if you can.  The majority of people are not educated yet and
won't know you can put a hyphen in the browser.

7) Think about your audience.  It's really not only what you like. Think about what
you visitor will do to find your site.

8) Buy a name!  I have talk to people that have spent untold hours and days looking
for their domain.  The get stuck in a looking mode.  Buy something. Spend a few
dollars. Domains are so inexpensive, go for it! You can always buy more.

9) Get the best domain extension for your site. Protect your name:
Unless your a non-profit, start by trying to get the ".com" extension of your name.
Chances are, visitors will look for that one first.  Next in line, ".net"

Once your domain is secure, pick up the other available extensions.  It a great way to
protect your name.  If you don't others can buy the other extensions and steal traffic.

For sure: .com, .net, .org, .us if your in the US, .co.uk if your in the UK.
others are: .biz .info .me .tv.

What's next after buying a domain? A website.
